Book Review: Daniel Negreanu’s Power Hold’em Strategy

Written by admin on July 31, 2008 – 8:17 pm -

Daniel Negreanu (Kid Poker) needs no introduction. His resume includes four WSOP bracelets, two WPT championships, Player of the Year in 2004, and more than $10 million dollars in tournament winnings alone, showing that he is one of the best poker players in the world. He is also a Cardoza Publishing writer.

His book: Power Hold’em Strategy is a masterpiece of Texas Hold’em poker strategy, containing many helpful hand examples, and focusing in tournament no limit holdem. Sections deal with specific topics like heads-up games, short-handed tables and bluffing. Negreanu discusses what he calls the “small ball strategy”, and how it can be excellent against aggressive players.

The book also have good chapters written by young poker pros like Evelyn Ng, Todd Brunson, David Williams, Paul Wasicka and Erick Lindgren. These sections deal with specifics like online play, short-handed cash games, “mixing it up”, high limit cash games.

However, most of the book was written by Daniel Negreanu, with a writing style that will impress a lot of readers that didn’t like other poker books.

This 504 pages book is a must read for anyone interested in improving their no limit holdem tournament play. You can find this book on the Cardoza Bookstore.

Cake Poker Room Review

Written by admin on July 1, 2008 – 6:26 am -

A recently developed US-friendly online poker site, Cake Poker was created by two online poker players who were unhappy with the sites currently on offer. Cake Poker are now the leading room in a network of poker sites known as the ‘Cake Poker Network’. Action is currently focused on the cash-game tables and some generous promotions are ensuring steady traffic growth.

Cake Poker Game Selection

The no-limit Texas Holdem games are where you will find the majority of the action at Cake Poker. More than 7,500 simultaneous players at peak times ensure that there is always a good selection of tables to choose from. Betting levels start at just 10c / 20c and the majority of the action is at $2 / $4 and below. 6-player cash games are very popular in addition to the full ring games – heads-up poker games can also be found at Cake.

Omaha and Stud poker are available at Cake Poker, though only busy during the peak periods. The tournament selection (including SNG tournaments) is growing rapidly, with a range of satellites and freerolls alongside the regular tournament schedule. The weekly showcase ‘$150k Guaranteed’ tournament runs each Sunday

Cake Poker Software And Service

The ‘designed by players for players’ is obvious as soon as you begin to play poker at this site. The main benefit of this site is the smooth and clean game-play, in addition to some nice graphics with their mock 3d view.

Cake Poker’s lobby is clearly laid out, the ‘top level’ split being between cash games and tournaments before seeing tabs for the different poker variations. The tables can then be quickly sorted by seat availability and buy-in levels.

An innovative feature is the ‘time at tables’ display – showing that Cake Poker take responsible gaming seriously. Their customer service is available via e-mail 24/7, expect fast turn around times and clear responses to any query.

Cake Poker Bonuses And Promotions

Cake Poker offer regular incentives to both new and regular players alike. The generous 100% to $500 Cake Poker sign-up bonus is further boosted by our ‘2 Free Books’ offer when using bonus code FREEBOOK. For more information check the page: Cake Poker Promotion. New players at Cake are also invited to join numerous freerolls and enrolled on both the ‘Gold Chip’ and ‘Gold Card’ reward schemes. Regulars at Cake Poker will also be rewarded – with regular ‘reload bonuses’ and the chance to spend accumulated points in the Cake Poker online store.

Cake Poker – Final Overview

Cake Poker offer a nice combination of player-friendly interface, generous promotions and a growing game selection. One of a small number of US-friendly poker sites to have maintained significant growth over the past couple of years, Cakes focus on the players should see this growth continue.
